makes sense in my mind that God would love a sinner like myself. I can understand the love of a mother for her child, or the love of a soldier who will sac- fathom why God sent His only Son Jesus to die in the place of the answer to this, God loves As many have rightly said, He But I still shake my head and swer that, I want to know more of His love. And like Paul, I pray that you would know more of

Truth for Today Cont. from Page 4
To the voters of Haverhill Corner Anthony Smith here, a forty plus year member of the Haverhill Corner Fire Department. I am writing again to try and talk to Phil Blanchard Op-Ed in the April 2nd The Bridge Weekly. He touched on so many topics it will be hard to give them all a complete look, but I will try. I have read the Op-Ed several times and have pulled out what I believe are his talking points. He wrote about (1) tax pay- er interest, (2) combined services, (3) fear, (4) a plan, (5) and changes. (1) I do not know of any taxpayers that have talk- ed about this so called merger. I am not asking for any names. I just have not heard of any talk about town regarding this issue. If there was interest you would have thought there would be talk around town about it. As far as I know it just showed up in the town report as an article in the warrant. I think that town management was talking about it along with pre- cinct commissioners and not many more. (2) The article is asking the precincts to relin- departments. It does not talk of combining ser- vices. I really grasp what Phil is talking about, one ment. Less bureaucracy, better purchasing power, more stability and stan- dardization among the departments. I get it, I understand the big pic- ture he is trying to paint. The problem is the town and then it will paint its own picture. You think you are getting a portrait but they are painting a still life of a banana. You need to ask the town, what is it that they in- department? You may not like what they intend to do. Remember to always, Question Authority. There is nothing wrong with doing that. It is your partment. (3) Phil talked about fear and that you should not fear this action. The only problem with that state- ment is the fact that fear comes from not knowing. Not knowing what is go- ing to happen. What the town will do with your is no reason why you, should not know what the town has in mind for your COVID 19 do you remem- ber the words federal STOCK-PILE? Well each department is your stra- tegically placed stock- pile of emergency equip- ment. The fear comes from not knowing if the town intends to move the stock-piles or do away with one or two of them. (4) In the Op-Ed the ques- tion was asked if Haver- hill Corner has a plan. I can tell you that we do not have a plan. No one ever asked us to come up with one. But we did ideas or plans. Plan # 1 - Nothing chang- es and we go on the way we are now. Plan # 2 - The town takes us all over, WFD, NHFD, HCFD, and everything stays the same. This plan does away with the pre- cincts, less bureaucracy. Plan # 3 - The town takes we get one Chief, 3 Assis- tant Chiefs, one in each department, and every- thing stays the same. This has even less bureaucra- cy, only one chief, better purchasing power, stabil- ity, and standardization. the chief must be from outside of town, so there is no favoritism. This is a must. Maybe a retired has retired in the area, not necessarily living in town. Plan # 4 - The town takes ments. The town elimi- nates the North Haverhill Fire Department. The town then gets its emer- gency services radiating from the north and the south of town. Woodsville and Haverhill Corner have relatively new sta- tions. Both have room to expand, Haverhill Corner has a LOT of room to ex- pand. With the two rela- tively new buildings the town has no cost of new construction. A huge sav- ing to the town. Plan # 5 - The town takes ments. The town gets rid of all three departments. It builds a new emergen- cy services complex on top of the hill where the old armory is now. It will house just about every- thing, Police, Fire, Am- bulance, and Highway Departments. Emergen- cy services will then ra- diate from the center of town into all the corners of it. Not very cost effec- tive compared to plan # 4. This plan, #5, is one that we have heard is be- ing batted around town management. I think that town management is leaning in this direction for two reasons. Reason one being what the town manger said in the Jour- nal Opinion article, "the committee will be look- ing into a location for the new department''. Reason two is the fact that North Haverhill voted to relin- department. I believe they think they know some- thing we do not. I believe they think they will be getting new department up on top of the hill where the old armory is. (5) Changes, Phil wrote about them. The changes that may be made with this move can be detri- mental to the town and its emergency services if not done well. The plan needs to be completely thought out, equipment placement, personnel, and response time. Now in conclusion, I don't think there is one yet. Town management has told you there are prob- lems with town funds, with redundancy, and with the town coming together. Without giving you any facts, the town expects you to vote. How do you vote on an idea when the town is not tell- ing you what it is? No in- formation, no facts, trust us, we know what we are doing. If they know what they are doing, why can't department, your town, your money, you should know what the plan is be- fore you vote. Anthony Smith Piermont, NH A forty plus year member of the HCFD
